Dinosaur Easter Baskets in Less than 5 Minutes

Updated: Mar 23, 2021

With so many people ordering our new Dinosaur Wrapping Paper (with matching cards) this week, we thought we would offer a creative way to utilize it for Easter since it is approaching fast. This basket is so simple, so cute, and would be perfect for holding eggs or small gifts! Don't have time to read? Watch the 30 second video we posted on IG showing how to make this!

Supplies needed:

1 Sheet of Organize Circus' Dinosaur Wrapping Paper (buy here!)

(or any 20"x30" sheet of premium weight wrapping paper)

Scissors

Stapler

5 minutes (or less)

Step 1: GATE FOLD YOUR BIG PAPER

We wanted to see the dinosaur pattern on the inside and outside of our Easter basket, so we decided to start by folding the paper in half so that the pattern was easy to see on both sides. For this step, simply take one sheet of paper (ours comes with three 20” x 30” sheets of paper) and fold the outside edges in to the middle (a gate fold). It’s ok if they are off by a little, this whole process is pretty forgiving.

Step 2: CUT OFF ONE EDGE TO MAKE A SQUARE

Although this basket can be made using a rectangle, it is easier to create the basket using a square paper. This step reminds me off making paper airplanes when I was a kid, but to create a square paper I just fold one of the long edges across to the other side, creating a big triangle on on the top ¾ of the paper, and then trim off the rectangle it leaves behind at the bottom. Be sure to keep this piece that you trim off though! We are going to use it to make the handle!!

Step 3: CREATE FOLD LINES AS CUT GUIDELINES

Layout your square paper (unfold the triangle leaving folded edges on the top and bottom. Now we need to create some guidelines for cutting. To do this. Fold your paper in thirds horizontally and again vertically. Then unfold. This will reveal a 3x3 grid. We will use these new fold lines as cut guides.

Step 4: MAKE FOUR CUTS ALONG THE FOLDED EDGES

This is the most important step…..

You are going to make four cuts along the folded edges using the new fold lines we made in the previous step. If your folded seams are not at the top and bottom, turn your paper 90 degrees so that they are oriented the same as ours. You will want to stop cutting about 1/3 the way up (up to the first horizontal fold line you made in step 3). DO NOT CUT ALL THE WAY.

Step 5: FOLD AND STAPLE

Fold both center squares towards the middle, and then bring in the left and right sides to meet it. Once you get them to an angle/size that you like, staple the three pieces together. Then repeat for the other side of the basket. Voila! The basket is complete (minus a handle).

Step 6: CREATE A HANDLE WITH THE SCRAPS

To add a handle to our basket, we took our leftover trimming from earlier and folded in the size of the handle thickness we wanted. Continue folding until all of the paper is folded together. Then bend the strip of paper inside your basket edges, and staple it to each side.
